1/14/2017 0 Comments Final portfolio My theme was supposed to be Alice in Wonderland, but it turned out to be more of a colorful, surreal, fantasy theme. I chose this theme because throughout my works I have been using lots of color, drawing detailed eyes, and animals. Alice in wonderland is very diverse and absurd with whimsical ad colorful characters. It is one of my favorite movies. I thought that painting and making art under this theme would be fun and challenging.
I incorporated the theme in my artwork by creating a teapot, like at Mad Hatter's tea party. I painted a scene from Alice in Wonderland including many symbols. The painting I did on the chair fits in more with the colorful surreal theme and fits in with my interest in drawing eyes. I selected the chair because everyone else was doing it, but I needed a day or two to plan and figure out what I was doing for the rest of my project. The library wall was chosen because I wanted a large canvas that would be different from others I have worked with. The largest challenge I faced with the library wall was getting permission to paint a part of the school and working with the wall texture. The white paint was kind of runny and that did not work well with a vertical surface. But through patience and a lot of paper towels I was able to fill in each part of the painting and keep it from running down. I also feel as though my planning process has changed and impacted on how I create my art. Instead of just doodling, I have began mixing paints, making mind maps, listing step, and combining ideas. I think my final works really wrap up my art this quarter. They consist of the things I love to draw/paint and have practiced creating throughout the year. They have shown my growth in painting eyes, small details, and finding color combinations. I have seen a large change especially in the way I blend colors and work with clay.

12/22/2016 0 Comments Artists Remake I remade my 4th grade teapot project. My old teapot was created with a tennisball and clay. The teapot ended up falling apart in the kilm (it's handle fell off and the bowl part was disformed). The paint ended up uneven and blotchy. This time I decided to creater a larger teapot with more details. It took multiple tries to create the shape. We attempted to create two pinch pots and combine them and use a bowl to create the shape. After the many attempts I was able to create the teapot using the bowl covered in paper towels. After lots of wedging, slipping, scoring and airdrying I was able to create the shape for the teapot. I hope to paint the teapot with more layers and for the teapot to come out of the kilm in one piece. Two struggles I faced while trtyng to create the teapot was it losing its shape while drying and being too thin to hold up.

10/26/2016 0 Comments I need more space? This is my painting for the theme "space". I learned that space has many MEANINGS and can be interpreted in different ways through art. I chose to draw an eye with charcoal and use an acrylic wash along with watercolor paints to create a galaxy. The eye is seeing the space around us. I also learned how to add dimension and draw in different perspectives. When drawing in the courtyard, I learned how to angle lines to create depth. I also learned how to use less detail and BRIGHT colors the "further away" objects are, along with how to make shapes that are not straight lines have vanishing points and look more DIMENSIONAL.10/19/2016 0 Comments BootCamp I feel like my most successful artwork has been the screen print shirt. The shirt has been my favorite project to work on. I feel as though it was successful because I created my own unique image and used different fonts and ideas. The image is a ying-yang cat symbol with "Moon Child" written around the circle in English and Japanese. Although the process took longer than I expected it to and I had a few mess ups while drawing the cats on the screen, it turned out looking very nice and had a moony look. The other drawings and paintings had also been quite successful, but my favorite project has to be the shirt. From the mistakes I made, I learned that I probably should have drawn the cats on the right side. I also learned that there is a simple solution to problems and you need to work with them.I should have drawn thicker lines on the screen and made sure that I did not press down too hard on the squeegee. Screen printing was really fun.
